A wonderful debut novel

This is a wonderful debut novel. It is ultimately about family: sisterhood and the connection of relatives across generations. For me, the fantasy elements (and I won't spoil them for you) serve as exemplifications of a search for deeper connections across dimensions, time, and family circumstance. The "secrets on the wall" indicate that the art objects in the house portend a remarkable notion: that the boundaries of house and home go far beyond the confines of walls. At the heart of the novel is a grandmother figure and sisters who anchor the work's fantastical forays within embodiments of love. I also admire the lyricism of the author's prose style. Ultimately, this novel shows that things are rarely only as they seems and art has the potential to take us into other world, realms, and dimensions. I highly recommend this book.

The story was good as far as it went

The story was good as far as it went. It is an abrupt cliff-hanger. I felt that it needed more editing. I frequently found myself rereading sections and adding or changing words so that it made sense. Another reviewer commented that it would be a good story for young children, be aware that there is some profanity. Not a lot, and it is used in appropriate situations, but it is there.

and I have to say it is a wonderful book to read to your children

I had the opportunity to read this book pre-production, and I have to say it is a wonderful book to read to your children. With its imaginative characters and gripping storyline, your kids will be sure to think of it as the next Harry Potter or Chronicles of Narnia. Some violent themes exist in the beginning, but no more than the usual novel. You should read this book. - Jillian Harper
